Dakota, Lutheran North boys soccer teams win district titles

The Macomb Dakota and Macomb Lutheran North boys soccer teams remained alive in the 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association state playoffs after both teams captured district titles.
The Cougars outlasted Port Huron Northern 1-0 in overtime to win a Division 1 district title in a match played Oct. 19 at Macomb L’Anse Creuse North. Dakota (17-1-2 at press time) took on Utica High in a D-1 regional semifinal that took place after press time. The winner of that match takes on either Fraser High or Bloomfield Hills High at 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Grosse Pointe North in a regional final.
The Mustangs (11-4-2 at press time) needed a shootout to knock off Imlay City 4-3 in a D-3 district final that took place Oct. 18 at Imlay City. Lutheran North took on Grosse Ile in a D-3 regional semi that took place after press time. The winner of that bout advances to take on either Clawson or Jackson Lumen Christi in a regional final set for 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Farmington High.
The 2013 boys soccer state finals are set for Nov. 2 at Troy Athens and East Kentwood. For time and site information, check www.mhsaa.com.
