WB Police Foundation raises funds at Glow Bowl event
Posted February 19, 2014
WEST BLOOMFIELD — The West Bloomfield Police Foundation will host its seventh annual Glow Bowl fundraiser at Wonderland Lanes in Commerce at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 22.
This will be the third straight year that the foundation will host a sell-out event, said Lt. Curtis Lawson, president of the foundation. Money raised will be used by the West Bloomfield Police Foundation to help members of the community in incidents where an officer is injured or killed, or if a family member of an officer is in need.
The decade-old foundation is a charitable organization that has, in the past, donated to various community groups, including youth groups, and families of fallen officers throughout Michigan.
“Our Police Foundation is very involved in helping several different families and groups in the greater West Bloomfield community,” said Michael Patton, West Bloomfield police chief. “We’re very fortunate to have so many enthusiastic staff members that participate in the planning and organizing of these events that help so many needy people.”
The cost for the fundraiser is $30 per bowler and includes shoes, three games of bowling, pizza and automatic entry into all jackpots. Bowlers will also have a chance to win an iPad mini.
Glow Bowl — when the bowling ally turns down the lights and turns on the disco ball — is one of two fundraisers hosted by the foundation, Lawson said. For its fall fundraiser, the Police Foundation is organizing a large event with the Defeat the Label campaign to combat bullying in the schools, he added. Proceeds from the fall event will be split between the Police Foundation and Defeat the Label.
To sign up for the West Bloomfield Police Foundation Glow Bowl, contact Foundation President Lt. Curtis Lawson at (248) 975-8924 or dispatcher Jennifer Schuler at firstname.lastname@example.org. Checks should be written out to “The West Bloomfield Police Foundation.” Wonderland Lanes is located at 8265 Richardson Road in Commerce.
