Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who was found lifeless in a ditch Aug. 6 after leaving a graduation party in Rochester Hills.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the man, who was identified by police as Christopher Morgan, of Rochester Hills, was killed after a hit-and-run accident on Avon Road, between Crooks and Adams, sometime after 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

A 22-year-old man who was a passenger in a yellow 2003 Pontiac Sunfire died after the car reportedly struck a party bus filled with 24 passengers that was stopped due to mechanical problems on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 75, south of Adams Road, at 3 a.m. July 30.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP —  A 16-year-old L’Anse Creuse High School student has been charged in a June 12 multivehicle crash in Macomb Township.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office reports that the teen is being charged with two felony counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function.

The accident happened on 21 Mile Road at Creekside Boulevard at approximately 10:39 a.m. after students had been released from school early after final exams.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A man who fell off a scooter he was operating was pronounced dead July 24 after being struck by an SUV in Madison Heights. 

The incident occurred early in the morning, just before 5 a.m., on Dequindre Road north of 11 Mile Road. Madison Heights police were notified via a 911 call from a nurse who witnessed the incident and attended to the victim at the scene.

First responders from St. Clair Shores were on the scene of a fatal accident on eastbound Interstate 94, at 12 Mile Road, at 5:51 a.m. July 18, according to Michigan State Police.

According to an MSP press release, a man was walking on the freeway, and “at approximately 5:55 a.m., information was dispatched that the subject had been struck by a car.”

Police believe the 46-year-old Roseville man ran from the westbound lanes of I-94 and then climbed over the median wall, running into eastbound traffic on I-94 before being struck by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler.

No injuries occurred following a three-vehicle crash and fire that shut down Interstate 696 lanes near Woodward Avenue for nearly a week.

Work on the roadway and median began June 12 and concluded the morning of June 17.   

MDOT workers were on the scene throughout the work week resulting in intermittent lane closures on both sides of I-696. The closures fluctuated between one and three lanes at a time. The lane closures — predominantly on the westbound side of the freeway at Campbell Road — caused backups during rush-hour commutes.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — A 56-year-old Macomb Township man died after his motorcycle struck a motorhome June 7.

According to Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Renee Yax, Kevin Michael Emery was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle west on 23 Mile Road, between North Avenue and Card Road, in Macomb Township at approximately 5:31 p.m., when a motorhome pulled out from a business and onto westbound 23 Mile Road.

WARREN — A 37-year-old man remained hospitalized and continued to recover at press time June 8, days after Warren firefighters pulled him from a collapsed trench at a construction site on Van Dyke between Chicago and 13 Mile roads.

Warren Fire Commissioner Wilburt “Skip” McAdams said the man, a resident of Howell, was freed at 9:35 p.m. June 6 following a nearly two-hour rescue operation. He said firefighters were dispatched at 7:38 p.m. and arrived at the scene within five minutes, where other workers and Warren police were attempting to dig the man out.

At approximately 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, the Shelby Township Police and Fire departments responded to a report of a serious injury accident in a residential neighborhood near 21 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

Lt. Jeff Daniel said a Shelby Township man in his mid-40s was operating a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck with a cap on it when the man lost control of the vehicle near Harry Street and Messmore Road.

A 57-year-old Eastpointe man is in “extremely critical condition,” according to Roseville Police Chief James Berlin, after a crash occurred at Tim Hortons on Groesbeck Highway north of Martin Road at approximately 7:30 a.m. May 30.

Police believe the man was driving out of the restaurant and failed to yield before driving onto southbound Groesbeck.

“He was pulling out of a Tim Hortons and failed to yield to traffic on Groesbeck, and was hit broadside,” said Berlin.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday, May 25, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury crash involving 10 vehicles, including a commercial dump truck/trailer combination.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a 55-year-old Detroit man was operating the commercial vehicle — for Heavy Metal Trucking in Warren — when it collided with vehicles that were stopped or preparing to stop for a red light on northbound M-53, south of 32 Mile Road.

WARREN — A 20-year-old Warren man died May 23 after the motorcycle he was reportedly operating at a high speed struck an SUV and then a train on Nine Mile Road east of Mound.

Detective Sgt. Stephen Mills of the Warren Police Department said officers in a scout car on a side street south of Nine Mile saw the motorcycle pass on northbound Ryan at a high speed at 10:50 p.m.

WARREN — A 42-year-old Grosse Pointe woman remained in critical condition May 18, more than 24 hours after a chunk of concrete broke away from the roadway on westbound Interstate 696, near Hoover, and smashed through the window of her vehicle.

“It’s actually part of 696 proper,” Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said, confirming that the material came from the road surface and not a bridge over the freeway.

WARREN — Gnashing metal scraped across concrete as 20 tons of steel shifted. The semi careened and came to rest on its side, crushing a Chevy Impala.

Warren firefighters dispatched to the scene of a rollover crash on the ramp from eastbound Interstate 696 to northbound Mound Road just after 3 p.m. May 1 didn’t know what they’d find, but they carried the tools they needed to free a 55-year-old Hazel Park man from the wreckage.

SOUTHFIELD/LATHRUP VILLAGE — Using 2016 data provided by the Michigan State Police, Michigan Auto Law, a group of auto accident attorneys, compiled a list of the “Top 20 Most Dangerous Intersections,” ranking the intersection of Telegraph and 12 Mile roads third.

The Southfield Road/11 Mile  Road intersection, in Lathrup Village, was ranked 11th.

According to the group’s website, www.michiganautolaw.com, the stats include any accident that occurred within 250 feet of an intersection, including turnarounds and highway on/off ramps.

ROSEVILLE — Jerry Tranchmontagne, a 27-year Roseville resident, is fed up with the number of crashes he’s seen on the westbound Interstate 696 freeway service drive west of Gratiot Avenue and has decided to take matters into his own hands to get the issue fixed.

His concern is that the low curb height and high speeds of drivers have contributed to numerous crashes on 11 Mile Road between Gratiot and Groveland Street.

A Roseville Police Department investigation is taking place after a fatal crash involving a pedestrian at Gratiot Avenue and Frazho Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. April 4.

The pedestrian, a 39-year-old Roseville man, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to a police press release April 4.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a black 2004 Saturn Ion, was a 58-year-old Warren man. According to police April 5, the pedestrian walked into the left travel lane of Gratiot about 500 feet north of Frazho.

A man is dead and a student is recovering in the hospital following a fiery collision recently.

According to a news release from Lt. Thomas Langewicz, of the Southfield Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:37 p.m. March 14 in the area of 10 Mile and Stonycroft.

Langewicz said emergency crews responded to a 911 call reporting a head-on collision in the intersection.

Southfield fire and rescue crews pronounced a man dead at the scene.
