Old is new again at vintage jewelry sale

BIRMINGHAM — The Community House is bringing back a little old-fashioned sparkle and charm with its first-ever Vintage Tea and Jewelry Sale.

The event, which will serve as a fundraiser for TCH’s youth outreach programs, will be a day of music, tea and vintage jewelry and other accessories. According to Brett Nichols, of TCH, the event is a way to build off of the success of the Winter Holiday Gift Show.

“We wanted to take advantage of the new wave of Etsy crafters that are repurposing things,” said Nichols, adding that 40 jewelry and accessory vendors will be selling their wares at the event. “It’s a great mix of estate sale jewelers, Etsy crafters, individual buyers, actual vintage jewelry, repurposed vintage jewelry and vintage-style new jewelry, and all but three are from the Detroit area.”

Guests will enjoy a full tea service, including coffee, fruit, tea, tea sandwiches and desserts, while they enjoy selections from pianist Penny Masourus, who will be on hand performing romantic-themed classics like “It’s Only a Paper Moon” and “My Funny Valentine.”

“It’ll be nice. We’ve got some really pretty vintage centerpieces on the tables and we’re encouraging people to wear vintage apparel,” said Nichols.

Among the vendors at the sale will be Lisa Adams, of Rochester Hills, who will be showcasing her one-of-a-kind repurposed jewelry creations. Adams said each of her items has a story all its own.

“The first piece to inspire my designs began with a friend’s brooch, left to her by her grandmother. Using the brooch, I created a beautiful necklace for her. She wears the family heirloom with love,” said Adams in a prepared statement.

Also bringing unique treasures to the sale is Robin Stone, of Vogue Vintage Jewels, based in Bloomfield Hills. She said she’s spent the past five years hand-selecting jewelry, hats and other accessories for her collection.

“Many of them are designer pieces, meaning they’re signed. Many are not, but equally as beautiful,” said Stone. “I would say some of them are under $25 and I think up to $300. I carry a varied price range. I try to bring enough so everybody can find something.”
