ST. CLAIR SHORES — St. Clair Shores Police are looking for a group of men that tried to break into the Walgreens at 21211 Harper Ave., just north of Eight Mile Road, in the early morning hours of May 9.

According to a press release from the Police Department, officers were patrolling the area at 3:13 a.m. that day when they saw a white Cadillac Escalade pull into the back drive-thru area of the pharmacy. Although the store was closed at that time, the officers saw three men get out of the vehicle and then they heard a loud noise that sounded like the men were trying to break in.

“He called for backup (and) when (the officers) attempted to confront them, they got back in the vehicle and fled,” said Detective Gordon Carrier.

The three men jumped back into the vehicle and drove away with police in pursuit. Officers pursued the vehicle onto westbound Interstate-94 into Detroit, reaching speeds over 100 mph. The pursuit continued off the freeway and onto Cadieux Road, but police lost sight of the vehicle — which had turned its lights off — on a side street.

The suspects didn’t get into the store, but did make a basketball-sized hole in the pharmacy window.

The vehicle license plate was covered, so police don’t have any further information on the vehicle.

Investigators will be reviewing surveillance video from the pharmacy, but anyone with any information is asked to call the Detective Bureau at (586) 445-5305.
