Looking Back: Western Auto

The Western Auto store was located at 13 S. Main Street in the 1950s. The building was originally David Cleary’s store — a clothing store — in the 1920s. When Mr. Cleary was appointed postmaster in 1924, the Post Office moved to that building the next year. Mr. Cleary also worked as a real estate agent and started the first newspaper in Clawson, the Clawson Journal, in 1924. The building has also been a hardware store and a salon. It currently is home to Salon Oggi.
