Looking Back: Mount Clemens
Posted January 6, 2014
Mount Clemens was not only known as a place to restore your health with mineral baths, but was known as a place with anything and everything to do. Cold weather did not keep people away from this health resort mecca. You could take a day trip to Mount Clemens upon the Interurban Railway from Detroit or Port Huron to enjoy live performances of theatre and music, gambling, horse and bike races, fishing, boating, and ice skating on the Clinton River.
In this photo, the ice is a welcome treat for many locals and people staying at the Avery Hotel. The photo, circa 1920, is from the Macomb County Historical Society Archive held at the Crocker House Museum.
The Crocker House Museum and Macomb County Historical Society are located at 15 Union Street in Mount Clemens. For more information, call (586) 465-2488 or go to www.crockerhousemuseum.com/
