A local woman is receiving treatment in the hospital after being shot in the stomach recently.

According to a news release from Deputy Chief Nick Loussia, of the Southfield Police Department, officers responded to the 22000 block of Lake Ravines Drive at around 12:45 p.m. Dec. 20 on a report that a woman had been shot.

Southfield paramedics arrived at the scene, and they treated and transported the woman, a 24-year-old from Detroit, to a hospital.

Loussia said that based on the initial investigation, police determined that the woman had been shot once in the stomach area.

“She is still in the hospital and in stable condition,” Loussia said in the release.

The victim and the suspect knew each other and have been in a dating relationship for several years, Loussia said.

The suspect, a 24-year-old Detroit man, was located and arrested without incident for assault with intent to murder, along with other weapons-related charges.

Police recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting, Loussia said.
