Local teams and individuals battle at girls golf state finals

The girls golf season concluded with the state finals Oct. 16-17, with all the action taking place at Michigan State University.

Division 1 and D-3 took place at Forest Akers East, while D-2 and D-4 was played at Forest Akers West.

Here’s a look at how each team finished and the local golfers who finished in the top 10 in their respective divisions.


Division 1
For the third consecutive season, Northville High was able to claim the top spot, shooting a team score of 313. Rochester Adams took second, posting a score of 322.

Grand Blanc High (328), Plymouth High (330), Rockford High (334), Bloomfield Hills High (346), Brighton High (346), Traverse City West (353), Hartland High (356), Ann Arbor Pioneer (360), Troy High (363), Grosse Pointe South (374), Troy Athens (378), Farmington High (381), Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (386), Livonia Stevenson (388), Utica Eisenhower (391) and Traverse City Central (392) rounded out the field.

Eisenhower’s Ariel Chang took second as an individual, putting up a score of 73, while Adams’ Grace Wang took ninth with a score of 76.


Division 2
After three consecutive state titles, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern gave way to new champion South Lyon High, which put together a team score of 335. Forest Hills Northern finished a close second at 338.

Okemos High (345), Haslett High (349), Fenton High (363), Dearborn Divine Child (363), Port Huron Northern (365), Farmington Hills Mercy (367), St. Joseph High (373), East Grand Rapids (375), Richland Gull Lake (386), Carleton Airport (391), Byron Center (391), Petoskey High (396), Muskegon Mona Shores (405), Gibraltar Carlson (416), Midland Dow (438) and Mount Pleasant High (440) rounded out the field.


Division 3
Bloomfield Hills Marian was able to top the field for the second consecutive year, posting a team score of 312. Macomb Lutheran North posted a score of 327 to finish second.

Grand Rapids South Christian (330), Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood (340), Flint Powers Catholic (346), Goodrich High (347), Ada Forest Hills Eastern (349), Freeland High (356), Grosse Ile High (358), Grand Rapids Christian (359), Whitehall (371), Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day (380), Battle Creek Harper Creek (381), Big Rapids High (385), Grand Rapids Catholic Central (387), Cheboygan High (389), Charlotte High (399) and Allegan High (405) rounded out the field.

It took a one-hole playoff, but Marian’s Shannon Kennedy was able to post the top individual score, which was 70. Lutheran North’s Lauren Timpf took third with a score of 71, while teammate Taylor Elias scored 76 to place fifth. Cranbrook’s Ashley Cong took ninth, shooting a 78.


Division 4
Montague High dominated, posting a score 343. Lansing Catholic finished 27 shots behind with a 370.

Michigan Center (371), Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian (372), Royal Oak Shrine Catholic (389), Durand High (389), Harbor Springs (391), Wixom St. Catherine of Siena Academy (391), Adrian Lenawee Christian (394), Remus Chippewa Hills (394), Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep (397), Shepherd High (398), Jackson Lumen Christi (409), Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy (411), South Haven High (425), North Muskegon (429), Ann Arbor Greenhills (433) and Hanover-Horton (447) rounded out the field.

Royal Oak Shrine’s Sydney Buchanan tied for ninth with a score of 86.
