Offensive keys: Last season in its first year under coach Rod Oden, Harper Woods had its second-best offensive season since the program was established. The Pioneers scored 436 points on their way to the program’s first playoff trip since 2009. Harper Woods topped 30 points nine times and hit 40 points five times. The team hasn’t had back-to-back winning seasons since 2011 and 2012.

Defensive keys: The Pioneers’ defense was solid in 2018, allowing just 14 points per game — a more than three touchdown per game improvement from 2017. Harper Woods held eight opponents to 13 points or fewer, and six to seven points or fewer.
