No injuries were reported during a residential fire on Solomon Boulevard, near Nine Mile and Haggerty roads, in Novi Dec. 20.

The Novi 911 Communications Center received a call at approximately 6:39 a.m. from a resident in the 22000 block of Solomon Boulevard for a fire, the Novi Fire Department said in a press release.

Upon arrival, Novi police officers found the front door, siding and porch on fire, the release states. An officer used a fire extinguisher to begin to knock down the fire. Novi firefighters used a fire hose to extinguish the fire.

Two occupants were home at the time of the fire and managed to escape safely, Novi Fire Chief Jeff Johnson said. Superior Ambulance checked a resident for injuries and reported none. Some patio furniture and exterior wood siding of the home were damaged by the fire.

After an investigation, it was determined that the fire was started by discarded smoking materials, the press release states.
