ROSEVILLE — A motorist was killed in a morning crash on eastbound Interstate 94 east of 12 Mile Road in Roseville at 8:05 a.m. Sept. 6 after the vehicle he was driving was hit from behind and both vehicles went into the median.

According to information released on Twitter by the Michigan State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the rear-ended vehicle was ejected during the crash. The vehicle rolled multiple times and the driver was declared dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said the at-fault driver of the second vehicle had minor injuries and was privately transported to the hospital for examination. The investigation remained ongoing but the Michigan State Police posted on its MSP Metro Detroit Twitter feed that speed and the deceased driver’s failure to wear a seatbelt were factors.

Michigan State Police 1st Lt. Michael Shaw said Sept. 7 that investigators were awaiting a report from the medical examiner and that no further information was available.

Neither driver has been identified.
