According to police, a 30-year-old Birmingham man died after being struck by a vehicle at Maple Road and Coolidge Highway in the early morning hours of Sept. 22.

Cmdr. Scott Grewe of the Birmingham Police Department said dispatchers received a 911 call from a driver around 3:30 a.m. that day who said she had hit a pedestrian on Maple, west of Coolidge.

The caller, a 60-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman, said she had hit a person while driving westbound on Maple. She said she was passing through the intersection of Maple and Coolidge on a green light when she struck the victim.

Upon arrival, officers found the man lying in the roadway. He had already succumbed to his injuries.

“We have not received the results yet regarding the testing for intoxicants,” said Grewe. “It’s likely we should receive them soon.”

The South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene to conduct an investigation, which is ongoing at this time. Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to call the Birmingham Police Department at (248) 530-1870.
