BINGHAM FARMS — The village of Bingham Farms will come together for the second year for its Family Fest Aug. 13.

The event will take place at the Jamestowne South lot 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Parking will be available at the Bingham Center.

The Bingham Farms Family Fest is free and will run rain or shine.

Since the village by charter does not own any property, it is not known to put on many events. However, it was granted permission from the landlord to use the lot for the Family Fest.

“Being such a small community, we were looking for a way to bring the community together as well as highlight some of the great opportunities and services we have in our community,” Village Council Trustee Lisa Blackburn said.

The first year for this festival was last year following the lifting of restrictions related to the pandemic.

“We wanted to celebrate the idea of people being able to gather again,” Ken Marten, Bingham Farms’ village administrator, said.

Last year the festival had a turnout of about 450 people, and Marten said he hopes the festival continues to grow.

There will be several forms of entertainment at the Family Fest this year. Some activities are returning after being a hit last year, while others are new to the festival.

Among the returning activities include live performances, a petting zoo, classic cars and a martial arts demonstration.

Galindo’s Food Truck and Sno Biz Detroit Shaved Ice will be available for residents and visitors to enjoy while they are at the festival.

New this year, there will be a rock climbing wall for the community to put their skills to the test.

There will also be several local art vendors sharing their work at the festival. The art element is new to the festival this year.

The village is also using this festival as a way to interact with the community.

There will be police vehicles and fire trucks at the event accompanied by local officers. This gives children the opportunity to get an up-close look at the vehicles as well as allows adults to meet their local emergency services personnel.

“We always love to take any opportunity we can to highlight our phenomenal police and fire services,” Blackburn said.

Residents can also take advantage of the Village Office Open House. The offices will be open if residents are interested to see how local government operates.

The Bingham Farms Family Fest is sponsored by several community groups, including Edward Jones Financial; Hainer & Berman;  Hondros College of Nursing; Hubbell, Roth & Clark; Profound Orthodontics; PSLZ CPAs; Rapid Mortgage; Daryl Gilliam, State Farm agent;

Templeton Building Co.; and Beachum & Roeser.

“Without their support we couldn’t have a festival at all, so we are grateful,” Marten said.
