WARREN — A late overtime surge pushed the Warren Woods Tower boys basketball team past Warren Mott 65-60 in a Feb. 25 Division 1 district quarterfinal.

The extra session started with three lead changes, which put the Marauders up 57-56 with 1:45 left in overtime. The Titans (13-8) proceeded to go on a 9-0 run over the next 1:36 of game time to move ahead 65-57 and seal the win.

"This was just a good, competitive game," Tower coach Nick Evola said. "We just did what we needed to do to win."

Mott (15-5) made a run of its own to push the game to overtime. The Marauders fell behind 54-58 late and ended regulation with a run over the last minute and change to force the extra period.

"We fought hard to give ourselves a chance in an overtime period," Marauders coach Jeff Olind said. "We missed out on some key plays. Tower was the more physical team, and we weren't ready for that. They hurt us on the offensive glass. It's just not the way you want the season to end."

Mott started hot and led 17-5 after the first quarter. Tower battled back to cut the lead to 25-22 at halftime and outscored the Marauders 18-10 to take a 40-35 lead into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter saw five ties and four lead changes.

"We started a little slow but we fought," Evola said. "Our guys showed a lot of grit, heart and toughness in fighting out of that early hole we were in. Mott's a good team. They weren't going to fold. We just had a little more in the overtime."

Tower senior forward Lee Veasley led the Titans with 18 points. Tower sophomore center Donovan Brownlee and senior guard Charles Anderson-Louie chipped in with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Warren Mott senior wing De'Jon Gantz led the Marauders with 18 points, including the shot with 52 seconds left to send the game into overtime. Mott senior forward DeJzon Aljahim netted 15 points, and senior guard Darius Willis scored 14 points.
