TROY — Troy High’s volleyball team won the program’s second consecutive district championship with a 3-0 victory against West Bloomfield High in a Division 1 district final Nov. 2 at Bloomfield Hills High.

With the win, the Colts advanced to a regional semifinal against Lake Orion High Nov. 6, after press time.

The winner plays at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Lake Orion against either Rochester Hills Stoney Creek or Walled Lake Northern.

“It’s great,” Troy coach Tom Vigilant said of winning a district championship in back-to-back seasons. “I’ve been with the program for 11 years. I think that’s our seventh district that we’ve won, and every one of (them is) special. You work the entire season to get there. … In the end, winning or losing districts is pretty much what determines if you were successful.”

Earlier this year, Vigilant said winning a district championship is something his girls “expect to do.”

“On paper, we felt that we had a good shot at it,” Vigilant said. “The reality is that by the time you get to the end of the season, everybody knows (who) everybody is, and everybody wanted to take us out. So, you still got (to) battle your way to the end.”

Expected or not, winning a district title was a big deal for Troy’s program.

“There’s nothing during the season that generates more excitement than winning a district,” Vigilant said.

With the win against West Bloomfield, Vigilant said Troy’s record was 36-11 on the season.
