The playoffs are near for local baseball and softball squads

MADISON HEIGHTS/HAZEL PARK — Local baseball and softball teams will soon have their respective seasons on the line, with each set to participate in various district tournaments.

The following is a look at district playoff information for local teams.

All district tournament games take place on the same day, and each of the teams in the semifinals received a first-round bye.

 

Baseball

Tournament host Madison Heights Bishop Foley plays at 10 a.m. June 2 in a Division 3 district semifinal game against Madison Heights Madison.

The other teams in the district are Detroit Henry Ford and Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest. The final is at 2 p.m.

Last season, Foley beat Madison 16-0 in a district semifinal before going on to win a state championship.

Hazel Park High plays at 10 a.m. June 2 at tournament host Livonia Clarenceville in a Division 2 semifinal against Ferndale High.

The other teams in the district are Redford Union, Clarenceville and Warren Fitzgerald. The final is at 3 p.m.

Last season, after winning a district championship, the Vikings’ season ended with a 4-3 regional semifinal loss against Clarenceville.

Madison Heights Lamphere was scheduled to play Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood in a D-2 opening-round game May 29, after press time.

The winner of that game plays Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day in a semifinal at 10 a.m. June 2. Clawson High is hosting the tournament.

The other teams in the district are Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and Clawson. The final is at 2 p.m.

Last year, Country Day beat Lamphere 10-6 in a district final.

 

Softball

Hazel Park will play at 12:30 p.m. June 2 at tournament host Clarenceville in a D-2 semifinal against either Fitzgerald or Clarenceville.

The other teams in the district are Ferndale and Redford Union. The final is at 3 p.m.

Last season, Center Line High beat Hazel Park 9-2 in a district final.

Lamphere plays at 10 a.m. June 2 against either Cranbrook or Country Day in a D-2 semifinal. Clawson is hosting the tournament.

The other teams in the district are Bloomfield Hills Marian and Clawson.

The final is at 2 p.m.

Last year, Country Day beat Lamphere 12-0 in a district final.

Madison plays at 10 a.m. June 2 at tournament host Foley in a D-3 semifinal against Clinton Township Clintondale.

Foley plays at noon June 2 in a semifinal against Auburn Hills Oakland Christian.

The winner of those games play for a district championship, with the contest scheduled for 2 p.m.

Last season, Lutheran Northwest beat Madison 15-0 in semifinal action, before moving on to beat Foley 6-4 in a final.
