GROSSE POINTES — The 8U squad from the Grosse Pointe Farms-City Little League Gold team won a local tournament championship with a 6-4 victory against Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores July 10 at Elworthy Field in Grosse Pointe. 

Prior to its championship game, Grosse Pointe Farms also beat Lac St. Clair, Macomb Township, Grosse Pointe Park and Harper Woods.

The Under-8 North Farmington West Bloomfield Youth Baseball All-Star team has made it a summer of championships.

The Panthers, a team made up of All-Stars from the NFWB, played in four regional tournaments and won three titles, going 10-3 overall in the process.

The team includes Ming Harvey, Noah Kornspan, Brady Scheidt, Dylan Brand, Jay Anderson, Joseph Shelide, Rocco Stefanovski, Logan Scheidt, Sam Nathan and Gavin Grondin along with coaches A.J. Scheidt (head coach), Robert Shelide, Neal Brand and Tony Harvey.

FARMINGTON HILLS — Jillian Smith, daughter of Kristin and Brian Smith, a seventh-grader at Our Lady of Sorrows in Farmington Hills and a member of Triumph Lacrosse, has been named as a 2016 Brine National All-Star and has been selected to represent the state of Michigan at the Brine National Lacrosse Academy and Brine National Lacrosse Classic July 19-22 in Richmond, Virginia.

The United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL) is searching for singers to perform the national anthem before each of its 75 games this season.

Live auditions will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. May 11-12 at Partridge Creek Mall, which is located at 17420 Hall Road in Clinton Township.

The USPBL will play its inaugural season at Jimmy John's Field on Auburn Road just west of downtown Utica, north of Hall Road. The league will feature three teams in 2016.

WARREN — The 30th season of the Warren-based Michigan Senior Softball League is set to begin May 5, and interested players still have time to sign up.

The league’s annual spring meeting is set for 10 a.m. April 22 at the Warren Community Center, 5460 Arden Ave., where players will register for the league. The cost to play is $70 and includes participation in 30 regular-season games and at least one playoff game. The fee also covers two tickets to the league’s annual postseason banquet.

The second annual 5K run and 1-mile walk fundraiser will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 19 at the St. Clair Shores Senior Center.

Proceeds from the event, which is run in conjunction with the Made in Michigan Festival, will go to the Senior Center Meal Program.

This is the last week to get discounted registration. The run is $25, the walk costs $15, and a special student rate is $15. After Aug. 16, prices will go up $5.

Participants can register online or drop off payment and a registration form at the St. Clair Shores Senior Center, located at 20000 Stephens Street.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — On July 10, Brittany Ott signed to play with the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League.

The goaltender, a 2009 graduate of St. Clair Shores Lakeview, played at the University of Maine, where she broke the school record for most saves in a game with 76.

Ott, 25, also played tennis and softball in high school and was All-State in softball in 2008.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Warren Lincoln wrestling coach Vito Delia said this season has been one of the more trying in his tenure.

Injuries and other issues have taken away from a squad that could have been dominant, he said.

That made the Abes' coach that much prouder to see his team best Madison Heights Lamphere 42-26 in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 regional final. The match took place Feb. 12 at Lamphere.
