Just that fast, the 2019 MHSAA football playoff field has been cut in half.

Nineteen Macomb Area Conference squads were in the hunt for a state title when the postseason started Nov. 1. Eight remain as week embark on district finals week: Macomb Dakota, Sterling Heights Stevenson, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, Port Huron High, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, Utica Eisenhower, Marine City High, Madison Heights Madison and Clawson High.

Each of those squads will play Nov. 8 for a spot in a regional final, set to be played Nov. 15 or Nov. 16. In this week's edition of Macomb Mashups, we look at some teams that are very familiar with one another.

MAC Red playoff showdown

Macomb Dakota (6-4) at Sterling Heights Stevenson (6-4) — 7 p.m. Nov. 8

Both Dakota and Stevenson snuck into the Division 1 playoffs with 5-4 regular season records. Each team got big wins in the predistrict round to stay alive. The Cougars shocked another MAC Red team, defending D-1 state champion Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, for the first time in six matchups. The Titans knocked off Warren Mott in a matchup of teams that met in Week 9 and the predistrict round.

A district final win would be the first in a while for either program. Dakota last got to the regional round in 2015, while Stevenson hasn't won two playoff games since 2009.

The Cougars have owned this series recently, taking five straight and nine of the last 10 meetings. Dakota this season beat Stevenson 40-14. The team's last met in the playoffs in 2008 — a 31-28 Titans win. Stevenson is 2-1 all-time against Dakota in postseason matchups.

Warren charter school on a roll

Warren Michigan Collegiate (9-1) at Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central (8-2) — 7 p.m. Nov. 8
