Two Macomb Area Conference Bronze Division foes looking to turn their seasons around will hit the diamond when Clinton Township Clintondale plays host to Mount Clemens at 4 p.m. May 2.

Both squads have struggled so far in 2012. The Dragons, at press time, had a record of 2-6, 1-2 in the MAC Bronze, while the Bathers were at 0-6 overall, 0-2 in league play.

“Playing Mount Clemens is a big game in any sport,” first-year Clintondale coach Dave Schindler said. “It’s a huge rivalry, and you never want to lose to your rival.”

Mount Clemens comes into the matchup looking to avenge a 16-3 April 18 home loss to the Dragons. In the May 2 contest, the Bathers also hope to see their pitching and defense improve, as Mount Clemens has allowed at least 15 runs four times this season.

Clintondale has had its own struggles early this season. The Dragons have been outscored 7.65 to 6 so far this season. A tough early season schedule hasn’t made things easy on the Dragons, either. Clintondale’s opponents have a combined winning percentage of .634.

“To beat Mount Clemens, we’re going to have to have good pitching and play good defense,” Schindler said. “It’s important to win every division game, and this one is even more important because of the rivalry aspect.”
