Livonia Franklin (5-3, 3-2 KLAA South) at Royal Oak (4-4, 4-3 OAA Blue)

Royal Oak will host Livonia Franklin on Oct. 23 for the final game of the regular season.  The first meeting between the Patriots and the Ravens carries significant weight for both teams. Franklin can lock up a playoff spot if it defeats Royal Oak.  Royal Oak will be hosting senior night on its home turf, and a win over Franklin would give the Ravens their first winning record since 2007.

Defeating the Patriots is not going to be an easy task.  Franklin has scored more than 30 points in all but one game this season, the only exception being a 17-27 loss to Kensington Lakes Athletic Association South rival Canton. In their last game against Salem on Oct. 16, the Patriots accumulated 509 rushing yards.

Royal Oak’s rushing game is crucial to its offense. James Mack and Brendan Beerer are the Ravens' most prolific performers, along with quarterback Bobby Green, whose passing game has improved dramatically over the course of the season.  However, the Ravens have stuggled recently defensively, giving up 42 points to Birmingham Groves in a shutout loss on Oct. 16.

On paper, Livonia Franklin has an overall edge in this game, especially if their strong offense can find the holes in Royal Oak’s defense. But, it’s important to remember how important a winning football record would mean to Royal Oak’s team, school and community. The stands will likely be packed, and the Ravens should be ready to avenge that Oct. 16 loss and finish the season with a winning record.

Prediction: Livonia Franklin
