A pair of district champs

When the final whistle blew in the district round of the boys soccer state tournament, Troy High and Troy Athens each had championship hardware to show for their efforts. Stevenson took on Midland Dow Oct. 25, and Athens played Oct. 26. Both games were played after press time.

Athens’ district title came Oct. 22 following a 4-0 win over Utica Stevenson. En route, the Red Hawks topped Utica High 1-0 in a semifinal and upended Clinton Township Chippewa Valley 2-1 in their Oct. 17 opener.

The Colts captured a D-1 district title by edging Birmingham Brother Rice 1-0 Oct. 21. Troy defeated Waterford Mott 3-0 in their semifinal game and Rochester Adams 3-1 en route to the district finals.
