MADISON HEIGHTS — If Drake Wilkins had any fear that the Madison Heights Lamphere football team was going to ride its emotion from last week into the Sept. 23 battle with his Madison Heights Madison High football team, well, his fears we’re calmed very early and quite often.

Madison senior Danny Larkins returned the game’s opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and the Eagles never looked back, rolling past the Rams 42-12 for their third win in three weeks.

“We made way too many mistakes and gave them a short field too often,” Lamphere coach Jason Charron said. “They capitalized early, and that was kind of the tone for the night.”

Madison, which has won three straight times over its city rival, took advantage of a number of Lamphere turnovers and built a 34-0 lead by halftime.

Madison, which started the season 0-2, is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Macomb Area Conference Gold Division.

The Eagles play at Eastpointe East Detroit (1-4, 0-2) at 7 p.m. Sept. 30.

Lamphere, now 1-4 and 1-2 in the MAC Silver, plays at Mount Clemens High (2-3, 2-1 in the MAC Bronze) at 7 p.m. Sept. 30.
