MACOMB TOWNSHIP — One Macomb County girls swim and dive program with its performance Oct. 6 kept a stranglehold on the Macomb County Swim and Dive Championships.

For the fourth year in a row, Utica Eisenhower captured the county title. Eisenhower won four of 12 events and had top-three finishes in seven others. Ike tallied up 489 points in the win.

Eisenhower junior Amelia Plonis, who is in her third year with the team, said camaraderie plays a major role in the squad’s success.

“We all work hard together as a team to accomplish a goal,” Plonis said. “Each year is always a challenge going into the (county meet), because all of the other teams are really good and we all work hard to compete for first place.”

Macomb Dakota finished second with 321 points. Macomb L’Anse Creuse North was next with 275 points. Rounding out the top five were New Baltimore Anchor Bay (229 points) and Clinton Township Chippewa Valley (194).

Plonis took home two first-place medals, winning the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Ike senior Bianca Licari earned Senior Swimmer of the Meet honors after setting a county record in the 100 fly with a time of 57.48 seconds. Plonis and Licari — along with senior Abby Warner and junior Addisyn Tokarz — won the 400 freestyle relay in a county-record time of 3:39.94.

“This year, we had a lot of depth going into our races,” Plonis said. “In the 200 freestyle, we had five girls finish in the top eight. We all pushed ourselves to win.

“With the depth we have on the team and the level of diligence everybody shows, we look forward to finishing the season strong.”

St. Clair Shores Lakeview freshman Elly Belmore had a strong performance, setting a county record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.42. Belmore also took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.94.

Relay teams from L’Anse Creuse North showed their mettle, winning two events. LCN’s 200 medley relay team — juniors Emma Dutkiewicz and Hannah Gurecki, along with senior Mallory Allard and junior Lauren Paris — won the event with a time of 1:52.08. LCN’s 200 relay team — sophomore Brianne Lowe, along with Paris, Gurecki and Allard — took home first place in the run with a time of 1:40.86. Paris also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.45.

Dakota junior Makayla Happell won the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.41.

Anchor Bay senior Kelsie Thomas (1:00.98) took first in the 100 backstroke.

Chippewa Valley senior Maddie Prusinowski tallied 348.45 points to win the diving event.
