Local wrestling squads battle in district action

FARMINGTON — Farmington High wrestling is heading to the team regional round.

The Falcons earned the spot after winning a Division 2 district championship Feb. 10 at home.

After drawing a bye in the first round, Farmington dispatched Redford Union 42-36 for the title. 

In the semifinal, Farmington Hills Harrison fell to Union 42-30.

Up next for the Falcons is a regional semifinal against Melvindale High Feb. 17 at Warren Woods Tower. 

In D-1, North Farmington also drew a bye in its district and then fell to Walled Lake Central 54-24 Feb. 11 at home. 

The individual district tournament took place Feb. 13. The top four finishers in each weight class will head to the regional round Feb. 20. See next week’s paper for a story on all the grapplers who earned spots in the state finals, which takes place March 3-5 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
