Local girls golf teams battle at state finals

METRO DETROIT — Girls golf teams from across the state wrapped up their 2019 season Oct. 18 and 19 at various sites.

Many teams from across the C & G Sports coverage area qualified for the final tournament of the year.

Following is a look at how local programs finished and the individuals who placed within the top 10.

 

Division 1 at Michigan State University
Northville High won its second state title in as many years, shooting a two-day total of 646. Okemos High’s Allison Cui finished with the top score of 146.

Locally, Grosse Pointe South finished second overall with a 678. Troy High finished sixth (701) and Rochester Adams (704) took seventh. Bloomfield Hills High (723) took ninth, followed by Utica Eisenhower (738) at 10th, Macomb Dakota (740) in 12th, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (746) in 13th and Farmington High (856) in 18th.

Individually, Eisenhower’s Ariel Chang finished fourth with a score of 151. Rochester High’s Savannah Haque (154) and Grosse Pointe South’s Audrey Becker (155) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

 

Division 2 at Michigan State University
Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern won its third straight state title, shooting a 648. South Lyon High’s Gabriella Tapp had the best individual score at 150.

Locally, Farmington Hills Mercy (730) and Birmingham Groves (732) finished in third and fourth, respectively.

Individually, Groves’ Chloe Collon tied for the sixth-best individual score at 162.

 

Division 3 at Grand Valley State University
The Mustangs of Bloomfield Hills Marian won the state championship with a team score of 689. It was three shots better than second-place finisher Flint Powers Catholic. Marian’s Shannon Kennedy also had the best individual score at 143.

Locally, Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day finished third with a 711. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood (741) took eighth and Macomb Lutheran North (803) was 16th.

Individually, Warren Regina’s Charlotte Thibault’s 165 was good for an eighth-place finish.
