Local boys soccer squads set sights on postseason

GROSSE POINTES — Boys soccer teams from across the state are starting their hopeful postseason runs.

The playoffs began Oct. 9 at various sites, with district play. The district playoff round runs Oct. 9-11 and Oct. 14-19. Regionals take place Oct. 22-26.

The state semifinals will be contested Oct. 30. The Divisions 1-4 state title games will be played Nov. 2 at Comstock Park High and Novi High.

In D-1, Grosse Pointe South will open up district play at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at home against Dearborn Fordson. The winner will advance to take on the winner of University of Detroit Jesuit or Detroit Western at 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Grosse Pointe North.

On the other side of the bracket, North received a bye and will play the winner of Oak Park High and Detroit Cass Tech at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at home. The district final is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at North.

Also in D-1, Warren De La Salle received a bye through the district quarterfinals and gets either Sterling Heights High or Roseville High in a semifinal at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at Warren Cousino. The district final is set for 5 p.m. Oct. 18.

In D-4, Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett will host Bloomfield Hills Roeper at 4 p.m. Oct. 16. Madison Heights Bishop Foley, Royal Oak Shrine and Sterling Heights Parkway Christian are on the other side of the bracket.

The district final will be played at 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at Foley.
