HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse senior Brooke Nadolny has been a mainstay in the softball record books, but that’s not all she wants to be known for.

Several colleges were vying for Nadolny’s services, including Michigan State University, Purdue University and Ohio University. Nadolny ultimately signed to play at Wayne State University, spurning high-level Division 1 programs for a D-2 program close to home.

“I really wanted to go D-2 because obviously I wanted to play softball, but I also wanted to have time for school, and I felt I may not get as much study time as necessary for college at a D-1 school,” said Nadolny, who expressed interest in Grand Valley State University, the University of Toledo and Oakland University, among other institutions. “The biggest part of my choosing Wayne State is that it’s close to home, because I’m very close with my family. I also loved it on campus, and the coaches and softball program are both great all around.”

Nadolny plans to major in sports management and marketing.

As a softball player, Nadolny (a pitcher) has done a great job of marketing herself with her play at the plate.

Coming into this season, she had set new state single-season home run records in 2017 (22 home runs) and 2018 (26). She’s currently the state’s all-time leader, with 66 home runs at press time.

This season, Nadolny has helped lead her team to a 21-2 record and a fourth straight division title (Macomb Area Conference White Division). She’s hitting .729 with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs. Nadolny has recorded a hit in 51 of 70 at-bats and also has 18 doubles.

Longtime Lancers coach Lisa Downey speaks glowingly of Nadolny. Downey called her an amazing player with a wealth of experience and a genuine love for the game.

“(Nadolny) is very loose and ready to help lead our team on and off the field,” Downey said. “She knows her teammates will be there to support her and help her have a great senior season.”

Nadolny is quick to keep the focus on the team, despite her individual accolades. She sees camaraderie as the main cog behind the team’s success.

The Lancers advanced to the regional round last season. Nadolny is hopeful that the team can make a run to the state finals, set for June 13-15 at Michigan State University.

“It would be beyond exciting to see my team and I win championships,” Nadolny said. “It is always exciting to win things as a team, and it would be very special to win in my very last season with my high school teammates.

“I love all of them so much and I am beyond proud to call them not only my teammates, but my best friends.”

L’Anse Creuse next takes the field for a matchup against St. Clair Shores Lakeview, set for 4:30 p.m. May 24 on the road.
