It wasn’t easy, but the Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse High School baseball team successfully navigated its way through a three-game gauntlet to win a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 district title.

In the district final, the Lancers (26-11) knocked off Roseville 4-1 June 4 after inclement weather pushed the games back a couple of days.

On its way to the final, L’Anse Creuse bested St. Clair Shores Lake Shore 11-9 May 29 in a district quarterfinal before downing St. Clair Shores Lakeview 3-1 June 4 in a district semifinal.

The Lancers moved on to a Division 1 regional, which was played after press time. If L’Anse Creuse fights its way through regionals and the state quarterfinals, also played after press time, it would play in the MHSAA state semfinals, set for June 15 in Battle Creek.

Other local baseball teams bow out of postseason early

The Mount Clemens baseball team (0-14) had its season end in a tough 15-14 loss to the Pontiac Academy for Excellence June 2 in a Division 3 district semifinal. The Bathers received a bye through the quarters.

The Macomb Lutheran North baseball team (10-13-2) after receiving a bye through the Division 3 district quarters fell 6-2 to Madison Heights Bishop Foley June 2 in a district semifinal. Foley went on to win the district crown.
