Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Little League was eliminated from championship contention Aug. 19, officially ending its run in the Little League World Series.

The team, which represented the Great Lakes Region in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, fell 15-5 in four innings to Holbrook, the Mid-Atlantic representative from New Jersey, giving the squad its second loss of the tournament.

Woods-Shores looked good early on as they took a 2-0 lead. But they then proceeded to give up runs over the next three straight innings, including nine in the top of the fourth inning, which gave Holbrook a 10-run lead.

Woods-Shores also dropped its first game of the tournament, losing 5-1 against Lufkin, the Southwest representative from Texas.

Woods-Shores went on to beat the Europe-Africa representative from Italy 11-7 Aug. 21 for its first victory of the tournament.

The appearance by Woods-Shores marks the first time since 2013 that Michigan has been represented in the Little League World Series.
