GROSSE POINTES — The Grosse Pointe North boys cross country team placed 12th at the Division 1 state final meet Nov. 3 at Michigan International Speedway.

Sophomore Preston Navarre led the team, finishing in 16 minutes, 9 seconds to finish 24th overall.

The top 30 individual places earn All-State honors.

Navarre was North’s first All-State runner since 2006.

Also racing for the Norsemen were seniors William Hofmann (16:28.9), Kuvin Satyadev (16:29.1), Garrett Schreck (16:49.3), Ben Seagram (17:53.8), Noah White (18:12.8) and junior Jack Day (18:43.4)

Co-coach Diane Montgomery, who leads the program along with Joe Ciaravino, said it was a special season.

“Over the past nine seasons together, we have worked to establish a culture of year-round runners; young men dedicated to the sport every day despite weather, other responsibilities and life in general,” Montgomery said.

On the girls’ side for North, senior Sara Michalik was the lone qualifier. She ran a 19:40.8, which placed her 102nd overall and 42nd among the seniors participating.

Grosse Pointe South also had a couple of runners at the state final, as senior Devon Krasner finished 51st overall and 23rd among seniors, with a time of 19:06.7.

On the boys’ side for South, sophomore Charles Rulison finished 108th overall and 18th among sophomores, with a time of 16:56.4.
