The state playoffs are around the corner and teams are still making the push to qualify. There are some big matchups this week that could go a long way to determining who gets in and who is left out.

Following is a list of some key C&G sports coverage area games.

OAA Red Showdown

Clarkston High (3-3) vs. Rochester Adams (4-2) –– 7 p.m. Oct. 11

After opening the season 1-3, Clarkston has started to hit its stride, picking up wins in its last two games. Adams lost to West Bloomfield last week but is still just two wins away from locking up a playoff spot. The Wolves beat the Highlanders 30-8 last season and hold a 20-14 edge in the all-time series. Clarkston needs a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, while the Highlanders are looking to inch closer to another postseason berth.

Playoff hopefuls look to solidify position

Eastpointe High (3-3) vs. Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse (4-2) –– 7 p.m. Oct. 11

Both teams are battling for a playoff spot and this game is big for both teams. Eastpointe has made the playoffs just once in program history, while the Lancers have been on the outside looking in since 2003. Outside of a playoff berth, both teams sit in the top three of the MAC Gold race. Sterling Heights High is also in the hunt.

LVC on the line?

South Lyon High (6-0) vs. Walled Lake Western (5-1) –– 7 p.m. Oct. 11

Both teams are unbeaten in the Lakes Valley Conference, and this game could determine who wins the league. South Lyon has already locked up a playoff spot, but a win for the Warriors pushes them in as well. South Lyon defeated Western 29-19 last season, but the Warriors hold a 6-2 edge in the all-time series.
