Team name: Utica Ford II Falcons
Last season’s record: 2-7
League: Macomb Area Conference White Division
Returning starters: 7
First game: 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Rochester Hills Stoney Creek

Offensive keys:
Interim coach Tony Smith, who served as an assistant with the team the previous two years, said it’s vital that the team’s new offensive players pick up the schemes quickly.

“We’ll have to jell quickly there,” said Smith, who served as head coach at Utica High from 2006 to 2015.

A group of seniors — quarterback Chance Kirkwood, offensive lineman Luke Chap, wide receiver Colton Ociepka and tight end Hunter Osantowske — will lead the unit.

Last season, Ford averaged 19.7 points per game.

Defensive keys:
Ford returns three of its top four linebackers from last season, Smith said, making that the strength of the defense. That includes seniors Nate George and Osantowske.

Chap (defensive line) Ociepka and Kirkwood (defensive backs) will contribute on the defensive side.

In 2017, the Falcons allowed 32.8 points per game.

Coach’s outlook:
“We want to get better as a program and support each other as we go through the season,” Smith said.
