The University of Detroit Mercy women’s lacrosse team earned its fourth consecutive trip to the Atlantic Sun Championship after defeating Kennesaw State University 18-11 April 24 in Kennesaw, Georgia.

After Kennesaw scored the first goal of the second half to tie the game 8-8, UDM freshman Kaitlyn Wandelt scored three straight goals to help put the Titans up for good.

Wandelt led UDM with six goals in the contest. She also had six draw controls, helping her break the single-season school record of 52, which was previously held by Zaynib Hamze.

UDM freshman Morgan Girardi led Detroit with four ground balls, with her teammates, Allison McDonough and Emma Mucci, collecting three.

Mucci, who is in her sophomore season with Detroit, is a graduate of Bloomfield Hills High.

Farmington Hills Mercy graduate Ally Shrader is also part of UDM’s roster.

The first two rounds of the Atlantic Sun Championship are scheduled for May 5-6, with the final slated to take place May 8.

The championship will be held in Kennesaw.
