MADISON HEIGHTS — The playoff run for Madison Heights Bishop Foley’s volleyball team came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Allen Park Cabrini in a Class C regional final Nov. 10 at home.

After the Ventures won the first set 25-22, Cabrini came back to take the next three 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16.

Following the match, Cabrini coach Cheryl Szczodrowski discussed how the Monarchs were able to keep their composure after the slow start.

“We have a habit of losing the first one and then coming back,” she said. “I only have three seniors — they wanted this really bad. They stepped up and they kept everybody up on the court. That was one of our problems all year. If we got behind, our heads went down. We never went down. We had energy the entire match.”

Foley coach Megan Gignac talked about the message she shared with her team.

"I told the kids, ‘We’re a good team,’” she  said. “‘We made it here out of 178 teams that participated in districts, which is unreal. You’re in the top 16.’ I didn’t want them to think this game was defining the season, because it did not. … We won the Catholic League tournament. We were second place in our division. As a coach, what more can you ask for, really? We’ve accomplished a lot this season.”

With its win, Cabrini advances to play host Adrian Madison in a quarterfinal match at 6 p.m. Nov. 15.

Emilee Dover contributed 14 kills for Foley, with her teammate, Kayla Moore, credited with seven. Nina Rudnitsky and Dover finished with 16 digs apiece, with Erin Whitman coming away with 33 assists.

Allison Zoski, Whitman and Annie O’Neil were Foley’s senior representatives.

The Ventures finished their season with an overall record of 32-4-3.
