MADISON HEIGHTS — After coming within one match of a 2009-10 Division 2 state title, Madison Heights Lamphere senior 189-pounder Jackson Lewis returned to the wrestling practice room this year and was faced with a different environment.

“My practice partners have changed every year, but now I’m the best guy in the room,” Lewis said. “I’m used to looking for the best guy in the room to beat me up a little bit and help me get better.

ROSEVILLE — It’s not often that an athlete as accomplished as Roseville senior 215-pounder Chris Nash learns to live in someone’s shadow.

Despite being a two-time All-State honoree and state runner-up at 215 pounds as a junior, Nash spent those years under the tutelage of his older brothers Bobby Nash and Kevin Nash.

But as he is now the only Nash on the Panthers’ roster, he’s adjusting to his time in the spotlight.

WARREN — Warren Woods Tower wrestling coach Greg Mayer’s quest to make sure his team gets the most out of every match it wrestles took another step forward Jan. 6.

The Titans wrestled their first dual meets as members of the Macomb Area Conference Red Division Jan. 6 at Roseville High, falling to Clinton Township Chippewa Valley 48-27 and Anchor Bay High 35-25.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — With four Grosse Pointe North wrestlers taking All-County honors at the 2010 Macomb County Championships, the Norsemen showed they have been listening to coach Brian Lorenzo.

Lorenzo’s message of wrestling tough and not letting opponents dictate the match helped such grapplers as senior 189-pounder Evan Locke make the most of the county meet.
