DETROIT — Luke Pfromm threw for 331 yards as Warren De La Salle beat the Novi Detroit Catholic Central 35-14 in the Catholic High School League class A-B title game Oct. 21 at Ford Field.

It’s the second straight win for De La Salle (7-2) over the Shamrocks (5-4) in as many weeks.

“The kids were prepared and take my hat off to them,” coach Mike Giannone said. “After the last week, they’ve had to keep the mental focus.”

The offense for the Shamrocks got off to a fast start and scored on the opening drive when quarterback Marco Genrich ran it in from 2 yards, giving them a 7-0 lead.

The Pilots would respond on their opening drive when quarterback Luke Pfromm was able to find running back Evan Vaillancourt for 16 yards to tie the game up at 7-7.

After the Pilots defense forced the Shamrocks to punt, the offense came back on and took the lead when Pfromm threw it to receiver Jacob Badalamenti for 57 yards, making it 14-7 early in the second quarter.

Midway through the second quarter Vaillancourt, would add another touchdown — this one for 6 yards — giving the Pilots a 21-7 lead at the break.

In the second half, it was more of the same from the Pilots offense as Pfromm once again found Badalamenti, this time for 56 yards and a 28-7 lead.

“Luke Pfromm has the greatest arm in the state. He can throw that ball real far and with accuracy. He’s definitely the best in the state,” Badalamenti said.

The Shamrocks would return the ensuing kickoff 60 yards, sparking some energy from the Catholic Central offense. But a fumble at the 12-yard line a few plays later gave the ball right back to De La Salle.

On the very next play, Pfromm found receiver Josh DeBerry on a screen pass, who then took it 76 yards for the score, expanding the Pilots lead to 35-7.

Not wanting to contribute only on offense, DeBerry then hauled in an interception on the following Catholic Central possession.

“The offense line just picked up some great blocks, and it felt great taking that ball down the side lines and just getting it done tonight with my team,” DeBarry said. “Then helping seal the game like that for my team, now we just have to get prepared for next week.”

The Shamrocks would find the end zone once more, late in fourth quarter as backup quarterback Jake Hinshaw connected with receiver Jack Downs for a 12-yard touchdown, making it 35-14.
