Last season’s record: 9-1
League: Michigan Independent Athletic Conference
Returning starters: Seven
First game: 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at Marine City Cardinal Mooney

Offensive keys:
Parkway Christian coach Joe Beck said offensive line play will tell the story. Senior captains Javen Cook and Zack Jaska, who paved the way for the team to rush for more than 3,500 yards last season, anchor the line. Last season, Parkway Christian had a stretch where it scored at least 53 points in five straight games.

Defensive keys:
Beck said there will be a more focused team effort on defense, as the unit will look to punish opposing ball carriers. The Eagles scored 433 points last season while only giving up 151.

Coach’s outlook:
“This year’s team is focused on trying to repeat as conference champs and is very hungry for a district title, which eluded us last year, and they know they’ll have a target on their back all season,” Beck said. “We lost some great ballplayers, and we have a great group of new players who are working hard to replicate last year’s success and to continue to add to it.”

It’s the first meeting between the Eagles and the Ventures. Foley scored 38.8 points per game on its way to a playoff berth last season.

vs. Livonia Clarenceville (0-9) — 7 p.m. Sept. 13
