Team name: Warren Lincoln Abes
Last season’s record: 1-8
League: Macomb Area Conference Bronze Division
Returning starters: 7
First game: 7 p.m. Aug. 23 vs. Warren Fitzgerald

Offensive keys:
Lincoln coach Darrius Alexander, who is in his fifth year with the program, said health will be key. Lincoln returns just three starters from last year’s offense.

Senior running back Donovan Yuchasz, senior tight end Jaren Johnson and senior athlete Justin Murphy, who will line up in multiple positions, have been tapped to lead the offense.

In 2017, Lincoln put up just 10.8 points per game.

Defensive keys:
Alexander said the defense has a chance to be the Abes’ strongest unit. He said the group’s core is strong; however, a lack of depth on this side of the ball could hurt Lincoln.

Sophomore defensive back Jeremiah Harvey, along with Murphy (defensive back), Yuchasz (defensive line) and Johnson (defensive line) will lead the defense.

The Abes allowed 29.1 points per game last season.

Coach’s outlook:
“We’re going to continue to live by our three tenets: faith, family, focus,” Alexander said. “We’re going to use each day as an opportunity to become better citizens, students, coaches and athletes. If we focus on the things we can control and handle our imperfect progress with a productive attitude, we’ll be successful.”
