League: Lakes Valley Conference
Returning starters: N/A
First game: 7 p.m. Aug. 23 vs. Novi Detroit Catholic Central at Wayne State University

Offensive keys:
The Alex Grignon era begins for the Warriors, as the first-year coach takes the field for the first time.

Grignon is an offensive mind, having previously been the offensive coordinator for South Lyon High.

“I’ve always been under the mindset that you only have so much time during a high school football season to implement your schemes, so you want to pick something and be great at it, not have a bunch of schemes and be pretty good at all of them,” Grignon told C & G Sports in July.

Last season, the Warriors averaged 31.5 points per game.

Defensive keys:
The Warriors were also impressive on the defensive side of the ball, only allowing 18.8 points per contest. Western held opponents to 14 points or less five times.

Coach’s outlook:
Grignon takes over the program from Mike Zdebski, who took a coaching position in Arizona. It’s a program used to winning. Grignon wants to win in more ways than one.

“My first priority as coach is to make sure my players are good people who succeed in the classroom in addition to on the field,” Grignon said in July. “I want my players to have confidence and self-belief, but talk is cheap and we have to back it up on the field.”
