WEST BLOOMFIELD — Local Caribou Coffee aficionados will need to find an alternative spot for getting their cup o’ joe. The specialty coffee and espresso retailer, 7310 Orchard Lake Road, was scheduled to close April 14, according to an email confirmation April 8 from a Caribou Coffee spokeswoman.

The West Bloomfield location is one of 80 scheduled to close, according to a statement from Mike Tattersfield, president and CEO of Caribou Coffee.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — The Town Center Task Force plans to recommend four actions to the Board of Trustees after recently discussing possible modifications for the Township Center Overlay District.

During a Town Center Task Force meeting April 10 at Township Hall, members of the task force wrote up four proposals, which they will present to the board during its April 23 meeting.

The task force, first proposed in January by task force member and township Trustee Howard Rosenberg, considers recommendations for the overlay district.

ORCHARD LAKE — People will soon be able to take a bite out of an annual island tradition more than three decades old.

The Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society’s annual Apple Island Tours are set for May 18-19. This year, attendees can expect to see a new feature — Western Michigan University students will showcase their archaeological class project on the 35-acre island, according to Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society President Gina Gregory.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — The township has shown signs of a rallying economy, with businesses moving in and the township budget balanced, and West Bloomfield Township Supervisor Michele Economou Ureste wants to keep it that way, she said during the fourth annual 2013 State of the Township address at Town Hall March 27.

During the speech, Ureste highlighted the township’s AA+ rating from Standard & Poor’s, which she said will ensure that West Bloomfield is viewed favorably by financial institutions.
