EASTPOINTE — Eastpointe City Council is on track to pass an updated zoning ordinance that makes the city more development- and redevelopment-ready.

Council recently received the final draft of the amended and updated zoning ordinance from the Planning Commission, after more than two years of revising, and it was scheduled for discussion at the Jan. 15 meeting.

ROSEVILLE — The Roseville City Council presented proclamations to two Eagle Scouts at the Jan. 8 regular meeting.

Paul and William Fry, 18-year-old twin brothers, will be recognized for their scouting achievements in a traditional court of honor ceremony next month, but they were approved for the rank in August, upon completion of their service projects at Solid Ground, a now-closed transitional homeless shelter.

ROSEVILLE — Police are investigating the assault of a 16-year-old Roseville student, after four male suspects ambushed him when he got off the school bus Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 9.

It is believed his assaulters are the family members of a female classmate with whom he got into a verbal argument that morning on the way to school.

ROSEVILLE — The city of Roseville received an “outstanding” rating during an audit report presentation at the regular City Council meeting Dec. 19.

“I’ve told the council in years past, and this year was no exception, the quality of the books and the records that we came in and audited are really excellent, outstanding,” Mark Hurst, an auditor from Plante & Moran, told the council during the meeting.

ROSEVILLE — Police in Roseville are looking for a suspect who’s been stealing piping from the bathrooms at local businesses.

The unknown suspect hit three businesses, two restaurants and one gas station in Roseville from Dec. 27-29, removing exposed piping from the male facilities. In one case, the man also stole an automatic flushing mechanism. Police said each incident only took minutes to carry out.

ROSEVILLE — Police in Roseville have dropped a felony charge against a Detroit teen suspected of dealing drugs in the city.

Police originally charged 19-year-old Kyle Rutland with one felony and multiple misdemeanors after a supposed drug-deal gone wrong Dec. 11 led to a high-speed car chase around the city, during which he struck three parked cars. However, after reviewing the case and people involved in the incident further, police said that they were forced to drop the charges against Rutland to two misdemeanors.

ROSEVILLE — Two young boys featured in an Amber Alert sent out by Roseville Police were found safe and unharmed shortly after the alert went out at approximately 10:30 p.m. Dec. 17.

At 10:50 p.m., just 18 minutes after the alert went out, Deputy Chief Don Glandon released a written statement saying the kids had been found and were OK.

“Both the children were all right,” said Glandon. “They were back home with their mother by 11-11:30 p.m.”
