PONTIAC — Down 32 points late in a Class B regional final loss to Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy March 12, Clinton Township Clintondale junior Jacob Babbitt, a non-starter, drained a three to score the last points in a 66-37 game that ended the Dragons season.

You’d think the shot put Clintondale ahead the way the bench erupted when the ball ripped through the net.

WARREN — At 5-15, 2-10 in the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division, you might think those associated with the 2011-12 Warren Lincoln boys basketball team would find few positives in the team’s recently ended season.

You’d be wrong.

“We competed every night,” Abes coach Jeff McGavin said following his team’s March 6 61-57 double overtime loss to Clawson in the opening round of a Class B district tournament.

“We really did fight hard all year. We just weren’t able to put everything together some nights.”

FERNDALE — The Ferndale girls basketball team’s season ended March 6 in a 73-45 regional semifinal loss to Dearborn Divine Child. It was a game Eagles coach Berwyn Ellis didn’t see his squad playing in at the start of the season.

“Every year, teams set goals, and last year, we said we wanted to win one game in the state playoffs,” said Ellis, the second-year coach of a Ferndale squad that finished the season 12-12.

That one win blossomed into three and a district title, which Ferndale locked up March 2 in a win over Ferndale University.
