A 73-year-old woman sustained a “significant” head injury after being hit by a pickup truck Saturday while walking in the intersection of Fourth and Main streets, police said.

The Allen Park woman was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital after she was hit at about 11:26 a.m. May 9 and was in stable condition as of May 11. Police said the woman also had scrapes on her arms.

Royal Oak Police Department Lt. Dave Clemens said the department is not releasing the victim’s name, nor is it releasing the name of the 35-year-old Southfield woman who was driving the Chevy Silverado pickup truck.

“The driver made a left turn and struck the pedestrian, who was in the crosswalk,” Clemens said.

Police determined the woman was crossing Main Street when she was hit by the truck turning left from eastbound Fourth Street.

Clemens said the woman was crossing at the appropriate time.

Clemens said the driver was released from the scene pending further investigation and neither alcohol nor weather conditions were a factor in the incident.

Clemens said the department would not release further details until the investigation is complete. He did not know how long the investigation would take.
