CLINTON TOWNSHIP — A woman gave birth shortly after an unknown assailant shot her the morning of Jan. 16.

Clinton Township Police Capt. Richard Maierle said Jan. 17 that the shooting occurred at about 6:49 a.m., in the parking lot of Eastwood Village Apartments in Clinton Township. The complex is located south of Metropolitan Parkway and east of Harper Avenue.

Maierle said a pregnant woman was getting into her car, on her way to work, when a strange man walked toward her.

The man, described as black, in his 40s and possessing a large build, shot the woman in the stomach.

A witness reportedly saw the suspect leave the scene in a black SUV, toward Harper.

The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital, where a caesarian section took place and the woman gave birth to a baby girl.

“(The victim) was still there when I was there,” Maierle said last week. “She was conscious and alert. Her condition is stable.”

At press time, police continued to investigate the scene and are attempting to discover any possible surveillance footage.
