UPDATE: Police say woman made fake report

St. Clair Shores Police are looking for a suspect accused of stealing a woman’s wedding ring when she had nothing else to give him.

Detective Gordon Carrier said the 45-year-old St. Clair Shores woman was getting out of the driver’s side of her car, parked in the lot of Kroger on Harper Avenue at 13 Mile Road, around 12:45 p.m. April 11 when she was approached by an approximately 17-year-old black male about 6-foot tall.

Carrier said the teen said, “Give me what you got,” but the woman told him she had nothing. That’s when she said the man struck her once on the forehead and grabbed her wedding ring off her finger, then fled in an older model silver Cadillac car.

The suspect was described as thin and wearing a baseball hat with the word “Detroit” on it, a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Police are not sure if he was acting with another person or on his own. He drove away toward a Wendy’s restaurant but the woman didn’t see where he went from there.

Anyone with any information with regard to the incident is asked to call the St. Clair Shores Police Detective Bureau at (586) 445-5305.

The woman was not treated for any injuries.

Carrier said residents should be mindful of what is going on around them at all times.

“Just be aware of their surroundings before they exit their vehicle, look around them and park in populated spaces,” he said.
