UTICA — The Utica Public Library is bringing back the opportunity to kick back and enjoy a movie right at the library.

The library will be hosting a movie event at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 and another one at 5 p.m. Dec. 10 for those who may have missed the first one or just want to return for another relaxing day at the movies.

Katherine Francis, the children’s services coordinator at the Utica Public Library, said the library is bringing back movie nights after not doing them for a long period of time.

“Movies at the Utica library has not happened in over 10 years and was on a much smaller scale back then. Many libraries have movie-showing events, and it is something that I’ve wanted to do here,” said Francis.

The Utica library is always looking for ways for the community to have fun at no cost.

“It’s a great way to bring people into the library and offers them something fun to do that is free. We will be offering popcorn and drinks while people enjoy the movie,” Francis said.

The children’s movie will be playing downstairs in the Gibbing Room. The movie on both dates will be “Incredibles 2.”

The library is encouraging people to dress in pajamas and join them for a fun night at the movies.

“People can dress in their jammies and bring a stuffed animal or blanket to make their movie-watching experience more cozy,” said Francis.

Francis said she would like to have movie nights once a month, but depending on the attendance, if Monday evenings don’t seem popular, the movies may switch to Saturday afternoons.

Parent supervision is required for the events.

Marsha Doege, director of the Utica Public Library, is happy to be able to offer free events that families can enjoy.

“I’m delighted that we’re able to offer free family movie nights at the library. Cozier than a theater and more room, with a bigger projection than most family rooms, the library is the perfect venue for families to enjoy a night out at the movies for free,” said Doege.

The events are open to anyone. The Utica Public Library is located at 7530 Auburn Road in Utica. For more information on the movies at the library, call (586) 731-4141 or visit www.uticalibrary.com.
