WARREN — A 37-year-old Warren man remained in custody at press time with bail set at $60,000 following an appearance in Macomb County Circuit Court, where he stands charged with incest for allegedly having sex with his daughter.

Warren police said the man’s daughter, who is now 19 and was not named, gave birth to a healthy baby in early 2017.

“April 2016 is when she got pregnant,” Detective Sgt. Paul Houtos said May 15, a day after the suspect went back before a circuit court judge, where an increased bail was ordered. “She said she didn’t know who the father was, that it was just some random guy she met at a party.”

Houtos said the suspect’s wife told investigators that she had concerns about a potentially inappropriate relationship in the house going back a few years. The police investigation began after the wife contacted Warren detectives in January.

“The biological mother of the victim confronted her husband, saying, ‘Do you know who the child’s father is?’ The victim denied anything,” Houtos said.

But that’s reportedly when the woman learned that her husband could be the father of his daughter’s baby. The child is now 16 months old.

Houtos said DNA test results came back in April and confirmed that the suspect is the child’s father.

The man stands charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for alleged incest. Each count is a 15-year felony.

An investigation by the Warren Police Department’s Special Victims Unit remained ongoing at press time as police seek further information about when sexual contact was originally initiated. If the suspect’s daughter was under 13 at the time, the result could be charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, punishable by up to life in prison.
