Two dead in fatal car crash, alcohol believed to be cause

SOUTHFIELD — Two women are dead after riding with an alleged drunken driver who drove into a tree early this morning.

According to reports, the crash happened just after 6 a.m. when the vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old Southfield man, was headed westbound on Northwestern Service Drive. He attempted to negotiate the curve onto southbound Berg Road, but was unable to complete the turn and crashed into a tree.

The front-seat passenger, 21-year-old Marcia Gingles, of Southfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger riding in the backseat, 20-year-old Tyana Bryant, of Southfield, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver is expected to be arraigned July 12, at which time his identity will be released.

Deputy Chief Nick Loussia of Southfield Police could not be immediately reached for comment.
