Police are seeking witnesses after a two-car crash at about 2:15 p.m. July 8 left a Macomb Township woman dead.

According to the police report, Donna  Zaccagnini, 74, of Macomb Township, died from injuries she sustained in the crash on eastbound Big Beaver Road, east of John R Road.

Police said several witnesses reported seeing a cream-colored 2008 Mercury Mountaineer on westbound Big Beaver Road cross over the median, strike two trees, enter the eastbound lanes and strike the 2011 Ford Taurus driven by Zaccagnini.

A 53-year-old Troy man drove the Mountaineer, police said. Police continue to investigate.

According to the police report, both drivers sustained serious injuries in the crash. Alliance Mobile Health transported both drivers from the scene to Beaumont Hospital, Troy, where  Zaccagnini died.

Police said both drivers were alone in their vehicles, and no other vehicles were involved. Both drivers wore seat belts, according to the police report.

Police closed all eastbound lanes of Big Beaver Road at John R Road for about two hours while the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team investigated.

Troy police Sgt. Meghan Lehman could not say if medical issues, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. “We are exploring all those possibilities,” she said.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Troy Police Department at (248) 524-3477.
